Graduate (Specialization) school in in Microbiology and Virology

The School in Microbiology and Virology aims to train specialists who will:

- develop in-depth knowledge of the biochemical and molecular bases of the biological functions of microorganisms in the fields of bacteriology, virology, mycology, and medical parasitology, as well as microorganism-host interactions, as simple models for the study and understanding of fundamental biological processes;

- acquire the professional ability to evaluate the diagnostic and clinical aspects of bacteriological, virological, mycological, and parasitological analyses applied to human pathology through the learning of both direct, cultural, and molecular methodologies, as well as indirect methods through analysis of the host's immune response to infectious agents and instrumental procedures, including automated ones;

- understand the molecular and cellular basis of drug resistance and the criteria for monitoring antibiotic resistance, especially in hospital settings;

- acquire skills in the organization and legislation governing the management of the Microbiology and Virology Laboratory, with particular reference to quality management, laboratory safety, and the disposal of toxic or infectious waste;

- achieve professional expertise in the planning, testing, and interpretation of clinical trial results.
